If you want to fish in open patches of water during freeze up all you DIE HARDS, I,ll repeat this same post from last year. My friend and I have done it for years: you need a 12 ft. alum. boat... 2 of you,one on each side in the centre of the boat walk along on whatever ice there is wearing
hip waders in case you break through a bit.. the ice and the boat will hold your weight. Both hands on the gunnel, slide the boat over the ice as you walk.. don,t panic if your foot breaks through, the boat will hold you.
One year the fire dept. tried to rescue us when we didn,t even want rescuing! A pike pole is handy to get yourself back on the ice on the way home. If you think it,s too dangerous, you may want to think about calling yourselves something else.

Are you really a "DIE HARD" or are you just ice fishing in a bigger hole?

Thanks for clarifying that! I do remember one time while ice fishing on Big Bay one year that 2 guys did that and they were catchin all the fish! They had pushed the little boat out to the real thin ice and once it broke thru they just sat there and jigged away. I'll tell ya some of the stunts I've seen out there scare the crap outta me! <br>
Hey, have a great season one way or the other....I ll be drilling the Bay of Quinte ice sometime in January.
