Four visiting fishermen were caught with 33 walleye over their limit on Rice Lake costing them $11'900.00 CANADIAN. Expensive fishing trip.

Idiots! They deserve to pay the little under 2,000 US apiece it will cost them. They shouldn't be allowed a license again period.

there is no excuse to not know the laws, and yes fines should be stiff but saying that I know there is a hell of a lot of people that violate this same law all the time ....... in Ontario your possession limit is the same as a daily limit that means no more than 4 fish at any time I think these guys missed that law and were here for a few days and thought they could take 4 fish a day X how ever many days they were here. In the states there is a daily limit but there is no possession limit once you get home I see guys all the time fish the morning take home a limit then fish the night and take home a limit and fish the next day and take home a limit this is illegal. but happens more than you would think .we wont even talk about shore lunches lol

That short article says that they were concealing the fish so they knew they were breaking the law.

I'm surprised they actually actually came back for court to plead guilty and wonder if the fine has actually been paid

This province has many millions if not over a billion of uncolleted traffic fines

Too bad to hear about this on a lake that I fish all the time. The Rice Lake walleye population has just started to recover over the last few years and these fines and penalties really need to be increased to have any effect. I wonder how many of these fish were over/under the slot size?? Fines should have doubled for any fish over/under.
