We have an ice fishing trip planned on the week-end of brurary 10th. It's a 4h hours car trip so I was wondering if anybody could give me information about the general ice condition of the bay?

Thanks,

It's hard to say at this point. Pay attention and check back to this site. Some areas that are typical good ice spots should be good but in the next few days more will tell

What area of the bay are you looking for? The Trent river was wide open last week reaching out into the bay to the island and pressure cracks were melted open 6 - 8 feet wide. There are going to be thin spots and thick spots covered in this weeks forecast snow so you will need to pick your poison and do a lot of picking your way around. I would not be using an ATV or sled out there any time soon.

This latest cold weather doesn't seem to be tightening up the ice as I would have expected.

There have been some posts that have give misleading or confusing reports on the local ice conditions. I'd look for more that one report before deciding.

I've been watching Long Reach, there were open areas there on Monday. So far, I'm just not prepared to risk it.

If my heart was set on the Bay, I'd look towards Belleville, Potter's Creek area.

If your coming from the west you might also consider a look at http://www.lakesimcoemessageboard.com/forums/

There seems to be ice up Lake Couchiching and Lake Simcoe way.

Whatever you decide, I hope you have safe ice and fish.

I'm coming from the east. At this point, I'm considering any area that will have safe ice.
