Sheldrake and skootamatta lake

Just wondering if anyone has done much ice fishing on these lakes

I haven't ice fished these lakes but I use to work in the area. They're not a Mecca for ice fishing. Sheldrake is pretty shallow, don't remember seeing any shacks there. There were shacks on Skoot.

Probably the best thing is to set up near an existing shack. The tough thing is access. That may be why more people don't fish up there.

There'll be more snow then we have here. If you have a sled then no problem, an ATV might work. If you don't, finding parking near the lake could be hard.

There's a parking spot at at Jacques Bay Rd. near Skoot which may or may not be plowed. You may find a spot to park near the causeway on Hughes Landing Rd.

Be careful about parking on the road. You can't park on a roadway and there's no shoulders up there. Most people don't realize that no parking signs aren't required to be ticketed and towed from a roadway.

If your interfering with the locals or Roads Dept., they'll have you removed.

If you find a spot that's appears to be well used for parking, then your probably OK. If it's snowing or snow removal is ongoing, stay off the road.

There use to be a parking spot east of Harlowe off Thompson Rd. at the west end of Big Gull. That was an access point for sleds so there was a trail to walk and some shacks not too far from shore.

Your first trip or two will be an adventure until you figure things out.

I actually have a cottage on the lake! ive done a little ice fishing in the past but this weekend im going up with a sled and a hut to actually be adventurous. Just wondering if anyone else has done much ice fishing on those 2 lakes. I dont see many people at all but you are right about the access part so that may be why. I seen on another post a guy asking about the burbot in the lake and id be interested in hearing what he knows! Thanks for the reply

Anybody who sets up next to an existing ice shack should be shot and pissed on there's a whole lake don't be a dick!

The word was near not next to. Sounds like your very stressed. Fishing is supposed to be relaxing and fun.

10% is still alot of water you just have to put a little time and effort into finding a spot with some structure of a ledge maybe a weedline or feed. When I say don't fish beside somebody's shack I'm talking about the guy who is kind of off to himself.if it is a city of huts knock yourself out these people are usually just fishing a easy to access spot that produces a few fish they all fish close together just to see what others are catching and using most have no knowledge of where to go or what to use on there own. While there's nothing wrong with helping people out with info the guy who gets away from the crowd usually likes to be away from the noise of someone. Putting a hole every 10 minutes and smacking there skoop on the ice, all said that's why you don't go fish next to the guy with the shack away from the party central let he/she enjoy themselves not walk out to find someone using his shack for a wind block fishing 2 feet off it.

The guy fishing off on his own probably has the exact same spot marked on navionics as I do.
A lot of times too walking out early morning you don't see them by that time I am not readjusting my course as I am already set on a location.

I feel like your first comment was slightly inappropriate and did not need to be said. You are right it's a big lake with millions of fish so if there is fish on the spot there is no reason why you can't share. If there is not enough fish to share your isolated spot clearly is not that good.

This is a public board which we are new to so let's keep the comments factual and educational. Unless you are looking for negative attention?

That's so ridiculous anybody going out before light with a brain carries a type of light and would you put a tree stand up in a tree because you seen one in the tree beside and there are deer tracks nearby .it's called hunter and angler ethics if you don't know what they are you probably don't have any!

If you want someone to understand and support your view, which of course your entitled to, please don't belittle them by name calling.

It's not appropriate and certainly not necessary referencing to someone as a dick or questioning if they have a brain.

We all know what your talking about and that's wasn't part of the initial discussion.

My intent was to simply help someone get started on a new lake. The initial question didn't indicate any familiarity with either lake.

If you know these lakes, then you know that there are areas where shacks are placed in proximity to one another. There's also vast areas of nothingness.

I didn't see any harm is suggesting to start out near established shacks. Not necessarily next to them.

Sure there's things I don't like and sometimes I even find offensive. If I'm not happy about it, I move somewhere else. Like you said, there's a whole lake out there. No big deal.
That's fishing.

No one intended to offend you or cause you harm.

Let's stop this discussion and move on. Once you put it out there, it's hard to take it back.

This thread got a little off topic! If i was gona go set up by a hut or a group of huts id talk to whoever was there first and make sure they dont mind and to pick there brain about the fishing. Went up this weekend, only seen a couple people on the skoot. No luck though, seen a couple eyes on the camera. Just trying to figure out my lake in the winter

. My wife's uncle has a cottage on skootamata and supposedly they are finding the eyes really deep this winter(60fow). Take that with a grain of salt , as it is second hand info and I have never fished that lake personally .
