Out this aft and the fish finder lite up with baitfish. All afternoon about every 20 minutes or so school of baitfish passed by. Managed to hook one ( see pic). No wonder I didn't get anything.

Hey Dan,
Do you know what kind of baitfish is that.
After looking on internet it almost look like a juvenile asian carp. Anyone else think that :?:

Looks like an alewife or shad. I have talked to a couple of people that have had schools of baitfish go by their hole, it sure seems to be making the bite tough.

It looks more like the Emerald shiner. They are not a invading species and they travel in big schools. I've marked them to and they come through in clouds like hundreds of them. No shortage of food down there between them and the perch.

Be safe out there guys...

Definitely a gizzard shad. When the ice was out last week the sea gulls were dive bombing them like crazy, all up and down Long Reach. Must be millions of them out there.

Catch them at night on the lake with husky jerks when trolling for eyes (they actually bite the baits) They load up on the shoals big time. Also the reason we have 10lb + walleyes so plentifully.

Fishing the shore at night in late October early November they were everywhere. On rough nights they were actually getting thrown up on shore.

Really like fish id topics.
Alewife or gizzard shad for sure.
Going with Landshark and saying gizzard shad too, because of the round nose, and
the non-protruding lower jaw.
However can't really see the dorsal thread, guess it's hidden in pic. ( Nice shot Dan )
