Went out from the thompson's point parking on feb 11th, cluster of huts a ways NW of the parking lot, walked towards the shermans point marker for the better part of a click. Nobody much out there so we moved with caution and swung the spud every now and then. Not much snow cover and you could see the boundary between old grey ice and new black ice. It looks like there may have been open water out there with the warm rain of last Tuesday but the cold nights since then have stiffened it up fresh black ice about 4 inches thick. Me and my buddy had no problems BUT 1) we were on foot 2) checked things with a swing of the spud every now and then 3) never went west into "Long Reach". When we set up, the ice was 4 or 5 inches thick. Thin enough to be worrisome if: it was above freezing, or real windy, or raining. As for fishing, caught 5 or 6 small, unremarkable perch and no eyes. Not many atv's out there, except for one with two guys hauling a hut. I thought hmmm 2 guys at 200 lbs each plus one 500 lbs of atw: ballpark 1000 lbs. !!! WTF?! be careful out there. Tight lines pdubya
