Does anyone know if the steelheads are running? have already run? or are yet to run? And where is a good place around Quinte area to fish them? I have been going down to Newcastle for the last couple of years and fishing them with my cousin but would like to check out a spot closer to Trenton. Any info would be awesome. Thanks.

The majority of the run is upstream with tomorrow's rain bringing in remaining stragglers.

I don't know the area really well, is dam #1 the dam I would come to if I were to head up the Trent River from the Trenton boat launch?

Yes, the whole Trent Severn waterway has about 45 locks, stretches almost 400 kms to Port Severn. Dam # 1 is beside lock # 1 on the Trent, and is the first barrier as you go up from the boat ramp ......most of the locks in the system (some have accompanying dams) offer interesting fishing opportunities.

If you go north on West st.to the end turn left at Chester Rd. go down a bit and park across from the fire fighting training complex follow the trail to the dam,the dam is blocked off but you can fish at the first spillway for bows, dont forget its a sanctuary until first Sat in May
