Couple of seasoned vets there. Thanks guys.

I've only been doing the spring lakers for 6-7 years.

In my experience I've had success with spoons ran off riggers and leadcore in 30-50 fow. The fishing during the midge hatch can be awesome but it's so painfully annoying lol.

And expensive 2 years ago we spent $25 dollars at the car wash after we came in getting the bugs out of the seats and carpet. Didn't try eating while on the water swallowed lots of protein as it was but the fishing was great

As much as I respect Al's knowledge I cant see changing too much from what has been working the last 5 years and that has been 20 to 50 feet. I don't know what strain were catchin but except for Monday were usually catchin . They aint muskie but were in a boat :D

I fish the South shore in the Western part of the Rochester basin and find the lakers deep like trannyman was saying. It is not uncommon to have to fish them on the bottom out to 220'. Most of the time we find them in the 70' - 120 range. Cowbells and spin n glo rigs are the number one set up when they are in this range.

Fished 3-4:30pm just south of the green marker in the Lower Gap. Dead calm, and the water is so clear you can see bottom in 60 FOW. Lots of midges killed and two lake trout released. Both fish taken on purple UV spoons with the cannon ball tapping bottom at 55FOW and 60FOW. Ran my second line shallower at 45 feet with no hits. Both fish were relatively small today.

Took the boys out yesterday as well. Didn't last long, they couldn't handle the Bugs. No fish but couldn't beat the weather. Next time hopefully the fish will bite and the bugs will be gone.

My laker season is done unless it's windy. I refuse to deal with the flies, makes such a mess and takes the fun out of it.

It's ok though. Walleyes are open soon :)
