This is the FIRST fishing report of 2006.
Only 73 days til walleye season.
Feb 22, 2006 will be remembered for this reason - I caught my FIRST Walleye thru the ice. I've been trying (not very hard) for 8 - 9 years and Laker John put us on fish yesterday at Hay Bay.
Giants, they weren't but good for the table.
We started at 1230 and finished at 1730 with a good days fishing.
This was a pix that I took around 1500 with what we had to that point.
Laker John lead the way for the day with 3 walleye (biggest 17") and three perch.
The number of fishers grew considerably as the day drew to a close, we counted over 50 people in out direct sight line. It was funny as everyone came down the launch ramp and headed straight out, just east of the large pressure crack and then they appeared to line up across the Bay in a straight line. It was as though they were setting a line of lures for the fish.
We saw Skevy's truck at the ramp when we got there -missed saying hi.
It was a GREAT day with good weather, good fishing and good company. The Sunset over Long Reach was nice too.
Total for the day - 5 walleye and half dozen perch.
With the amount of fishing pressure, it would appear as though the word was out that they were biting at Hay Bay, we saw three other fish landed, hard to see fish landed from 100's of yards.
There's a remote chance we might be able to get to close the season on Tuesday.
Stay Tuned.
