I cant believe how good the fishing has been. fished mornings till 11:30 and again evenings till 8:00. lost count on how many fish. Mostly trolled with harnesses up high on boards with trolling speed between 1.7-2.1 Had a lot of misses too on the boards where the flag dropped and the reels did a quick rip but no fish, not sure how to increase hook ups. I have read that some play with throwing the reel into free spool for a moment to give em an extra moment to get onto the worm. I tried slowing down but didnt get as many strikes. Hit a 8.5lb eye that crushed the board and pulled it under. Once that board got completely underwater I had a hell of a time trying to get it back up. Also found a nice weedbed in about 12' of water with the weeds topping out at 7' which was perfect for casting a crank over. The fish there were nicer with a size average 3-4 lbs with one fish just shy of 5lbs. All in all it was a great weekend with weather and cooperative fish!

Dan...thanks for the encouraging report. The WalleyWon crew with 8 guys are making our way down in a week for our Annual Skins and Fins week and yours is the kind of report (among others) that we like to hear. Have a cottage rented deep in Hay Bay but big enough boats to tour around if needed.

Thanks again,
Steve

Thanks for the excellent report Dan. The Ayr Sportsman are making their yearly spring visit to Sunset Farms for the 31st year starting tomorrow. . Reading reports like yours sure gets the wheels grinding, and the blood flowing. The planer boards and suspended fish sounds exciting. If you don't mind me asking, do you run the boards with a mast? How do you weight your worm harness to get it down?
Thanks again for the report, and I will report following our trip.

I run inline offshore boards and you can get your harnesses down with snap weights or tadpoles. Both are available at pro tackle here in Belleville. I'm sure if you call them they will set them aside for you

Not sure what you mean by stingers? i tie my own harnesses with a 2 hook set up and a 48" snell and play with blade colors.

Dan: he's probably talking stinger hooks, trailing the main body and hook, about 2 inches further back.

Just advised our Son in Windsor area to do that, becuz he's losing fish due to the 'soft' bite that shows up each year - fish gets to boat, looks at you, spits hook and leaves laughing.

Only problem with Stingers is you can get into one helluva mess with that second hook sticking in the net in an awkward place, while a large Beastie thrashes around simultaneously.

Instead of using 2 single hooks on your harnesses, try using a treble and a single...
