I don't know this guy's situation but we spend 1000s of dollars on fishing, spend the money on a comfortable life jacket. We all owe it to our families. So sad, rest in peaceful and may his family heal as well.

The two men are my cousins, the boat flipped on them around 5:30 sat, they hung onto the flipped boat for 2hrs, slowly working it towards the closest shoreline, they got within a 100 yards from shore and Ron thought he could make the swim, Riley didn't feel he could make the swim so he stayed with the boat. Riley said Ron only went a short ways before he went straight down and drowned in 8ft of water. 20 min later Riley made it to shore with the boat and was able to call for help at a close by house. I wish Ron would have waited till the boat was closer to shore but he was only trying to get help for Riley, the type of guy he was. They were so so Cold and he just wanted to get home and get Riley Home safe. Ron had lived on Amherst Island his whole life, He was the type of guy who worked hard and played even harder, He loved to Hunt and fish. Definitely Gonna miss him, it helps me to mourn by talking about it.

Such a sad story. It got very rough out there Saturday. We were at pigeon island and around 2-3 it started to blow hard from south west.

A harsh reminder to take every precaution possible.

Sorry for your loss Ginner20, tragic for Riley to live with the rest of his life.

it really is, Riley is only in his early 20's and Ron is same age as me 32, I just wish he had of hung onto the boat till he could touch bottom. but after 2hrs in that water he must have been desperate to get warm and get home. I cant imagine. Our family is hurting badly, it will get easier but will never go away.

Ginner20, I am so sorry for your loss. It is a very sad situation and one that so easily could have happened to any of of us. I did not know either Ron or Riley but I wore my life jacket all day today and thought of them both. I'll wear it again tomorrow and think of Ron while I'm out there. I hope others do the same.

Scott

Thanks Scott. Very much appreciated. I too am going to be wearing my life vest from here on. And I will think of Ron every time and will be thankful for time we spent together over the years.
