Quinte Fishing

Bounced around Adolphus Reach for 5 hrs today.

Lots of boats out. I was surprised. Blowing pretty good from the north west.

Marked a few fish at 60 to 80 ft but what they are is anyone's guess. Very sparse.

Checked by the MNR doing a creel count. They had come across one fish on a charter boat.

That was it. Water temp. was 46 F..

Tried jigging with buck tail and minnows. Use to pound the walleye doing this.

Just perch.

Probably try again in a couple of days.

I was out today in the green Lund. Marked lots of fish. Caught one just under 10 lbs. Also tried fishing Monday and Tuesday but was blown off the water with those 35 km/h winds and 4 ft waves. I felt unsafe and called it a day.

I was going to drive to Picton from Burlington to fish on Friday November 24th, but am a bit concerned I may drive 2.5 hours and not be able to get out because of wind and waves...looks like they re calling for 20 -25 km westerly winds ... interested in hearing any opinions on whether or not its going to be fishable in a 17.5 foot Lund ?

Launching from Picton, you should be able to fish the west shore of Picton Bay and Long Reach.

I am heading to Picton on Friday as well. I am not happy about the wind forecast but I am going anyway. I have a G3 Angler 1650 and I'm not concerned about being safe but for sure it will be a little bumpy. Hopefully it will be worth it!

Looks like winds on Friday are going to be SW with gusts into the 40's most of the day. I would say Adolphus Reach will not be suitable for smaller boats. Unfortunately the forecast for next week or more doesn't look to promising either. I think my boat will be going into hibernation this weekend.

I hope you are confident with your boat. You might be able to tough it out while fishing, but it's gonna be one helluva ride back to the launch if the forecast is right.

Hi Goby.

I tend to agree with you on this. Why do you think this is the case? Some locals and guides will call BS, but I saw last year some walleye guides catching more pike and drum than walleye. I remember going out in 2013 and having 8-10 fish days by myself and hearing of charter boats catching 30 fish in one day. Now, a 2-3 fish day is a good none out there. Seems like a lot of effort and money for a couple fish. Especially since the kawarthas are producing good numbers and fair size fish.

I'm also interested why is that... Ice fishing is definitely down hill for last couple of years too. No numbers and no big fish. What a great fishery we had

I've noticed a big difference on Lake Ontario in the summer too. Spots where we would have 10-20 fish days are now more often than not 2-10 fish days

Not sure if it's just a change in their migration pattern or if it's reduced population. Mnr says the stock is very healthy so I tend to believe them. Jim Hoyle and team are very involved in Quinte walleye monitoring.

Maybe it’s just me being crazy but I can’t imaging that all those commercial nets aren’t affecting the fish entering the Bay. I’m pretty new to fishing this area so I don’t know if there’s been an increase in in the amount of nets or not but when I was out fishing in October it blew my mind how many nets I came across.
