I have a couple of HDS units on my boat and I can build some sort of case to hold one as well as a small battery. I have extra transducers and power cords and really dont want to buy an ice transducer if I don't have to until I see how much ice fishing I might do. Haven't really ice fished since the 70's.

I used a portable Humminbird 160 with a mounted transducer for a few years. Worked well. Gave me depth and showed that there were fish around.

I used an empty water bottle for a float which worked OK. I later just looped the transducer cord and secured it with a nylon tie so it hung straight. I hung the transducer off a small stick that I laid across the hole. Worked really well.

Now, I use a Portable Garmin that I bought from Costco. Really like it. Has the GPS for returning to good spots.

If you looking for a portable battery, Magnacharge (former National Battery) in Kingston should have what your looking for at a good price.

Just a thought, one of those ammo cans from Princess Auto might work as a battery case and the finder can be mounted on the top.
