Quinte Fishing

Hi guys, I'm looking for some thoughts and advice on buying a new boat. I'm currently using 16ft legend wide-body tiller 25hp merc 2 stroke but looking at upgrading to a walk through windshield boat that will allow me to take the grand kids and others in a more comfortable ride but still able to fish during my retirement days. Most fishing is done trolling with a buddy or two.

I have the search narrowed down to a 2013 Princecraft sport 164 with full stand up top,bow mount trolling motor, fish finer ect and the rear flip seat under the casting deck powered by a 90 hp mercury 4 stroke. The boat is listed at a dealer with low hours and warranty. The other boat is a 20117 Lowe fm165 Wt it is essentially the same as the other without the bow cushions or stand up top but is new being last years model. The stand up top is extra and cushions as well..

Both dealers have been excellent to deal with and very help full. My dilemma is being cheap...I would like to hear some thoughts on these boats or other advice if you can. Thanks in advance and Merry Christmas to all.. Be safe out there...Tom

The first boat I bought was from an old guy that owned a local marina. He was an old sea dog type. Did deals on a hand shake. Gave me the boat and let me pay as I could. No loan or contract. Great guy.

When I approached him about buying the boat, he said," you know son, a boat is just a hole in the water to thrown your money into."

Now, a half dozen boats later, I realize just how right he was.

So, where I'm going with this is, whatever makes you happy. If your happier with cheap, then do cheap.

If what you want trumps cheap, then do that. Both boats makers are owned by Brunswick so they'll be similar.

I bought a Lowe 1610 FS (fish and ski) last year with a 115 HP on it. It came with bow cushions that are easily removable for a nice casting deck. I'm happy with it but haven't had anything to compare with it. I've gone cruising a few times with the kids but mostly fished, with my family, with a few friends, and by myself quite often.

Princecraft. Better quality boat. Had both.

Lowe makes a decent boat. I wouldn't hesitate. But buy the one that make the most sense financially and enjoy it.
