I went down to canadian tire in trenton this morning from belleville driving along hiway 2. There were guys out at Potters, Bayside and CFB trenton, also saw guys at george st. Stopped at Pt Anne lane and the parking lot has been plowed but no one out today from there and only one set of previous tracks going out on the ice there. Looks like the crowds are spreading out now

How much do you think this rig helps? I have the exact same set up and man, it helps but only slightly. I have the 2x8 or 2x12 center pieces just like yours and its not very good. i use down hill skis. id say it makes the pull about 20% ligher.

Truthfully I would say that in the deeper snow it cuts the weight or push by 50 - 60 %
I am looking at building another one in the near future for a small day trek sled. I do a lot of hole hoping sometimes when the weather permits. My plan is to have the smaller one fit on the frame of this sled so that I can assemble it on the ice after setting up the shack and only take a few things out while hole hoping.

nice. well to be fair i used my smitty last year for back lake trout and there is a lot of hills and trees to go around. maybe on flat ground it will seem more useful...i sure hope it feels 50% lighter for me too out in this snow!
