Just curious if anyone has been there yet and what conditions are like. Might head there this weekend but if conditions are no good don't want to make the drive

Dove the north shore yesterday. Could see shacks off the south shore in the area of the church.

Went out from the old church today. Got some perch one really nice jumbo. No walleye but ice was good where I was probably had 10 inches. 6 black Ice 4 white. Some spots where slushy and snowy they had less ice. Looked like there might have been a few people at Sherman's but was hard to tell

I went out from Thompsonès point on Thursday Dec. 28th. There was about 4 inches of black ice with about a foot of snow on top. There were 3 or 4 pop up huts around and no ATVs, There were more huts out near the Shermans Point boat launch. I was walking and spudding every now and then. There was some slush in spots and only one set of tracks. The walking was a tough slog. The slush will likely be frozen by now and the ice will be getting thicker as we get all these nights below -20C. However, there are some deep drifts where the ice will be thinner so be careful especially if you are are on an ATV and the snow is deep. Going west at the Long Reach side of Hay BAy the ice is likely to be thinner. Further east: Near the Church and at the Shermanès Point boat launch the ice should be thicker than at Thompsons. The Thompsons parking lot had a foot of snow in it. I have an AWD Subaru with snow tires and it sure helped when driving in that parking lot.

I'm at Sherman's right now. On about 5 inches of black ice. Definitely spud your way around, I started by following a 4 wheeler trail cause someone has a permanent hut out here though oh he didn't go through that trail must be okay. Well I saw one spot that looked funny to me so I spud it and 2 light hits went right threw one of the wheelers tire paths. And sure enough 10 mins later came the wheeler right down the same path

Yep, I found that spot too. I was there Friday as well some good ice around but some real messy stuff too. I walked around for an hour and a half spudding and drilling all over the place checking ice before I started fishing and some spots were layered ice, water, ice then snow on top. the snowless spots were quite thick at 9 inches with 5 black and 4 white. I stuck close to shore as I was solo and was planning on walking back in in the dark. Only at 20 FOW, crazy amount of perch there on camera, only saw 2 eyes all day. One the size of a perch the other about 3lbs which went by when I was changing lures. Also saw a pike and a sucker swim by in the distance. A few guys walked out to the center pretending to spud along the way but all made it out and in safe so think i should have gone out a bit more. oh well, another day, it's still early in the season. I was the black hut with orange trim.
