My wife and I went for a drive yesterday. I was really surprised how much things were opening up. Looked more like the end of February or early March.
Started in Tweed and when up through Stoco, Moira, Crowe, Cordova, Stoney Lake and everything in between. Everywhere we went the ice was opening up and the rivers were roaring.
The snow outside the woods is pretty much all gone. Groomed trails are all ice or bare ground. The water through Burleigh Falls looked like a spring torrent.
I could see old snowmobile tracks running the river ice now ending in open water.
Still shacks out and trucks on the ice.
Everyone should be extra careful going out on the ice.

Yes some southern warm air moved in, it's not unheard of, be careful in high current areas as they tend to weaken quickly during these events. Another arctic deep freeze is on its way, and is forecast to continue that trend into March. A lot more ice is going to be made before the end of the season.

It shows overnight temps in the negative double digits for the next 2 weeks. Not Arctic temps like we had earlier in the year, but not too bad.

Correct, I should have stated that the polar vortex is scheduled to come back down, rather than arctic deep freeze. Regardless, lots of ice will be made over the next month.
