Good evening. I went out to Sherman's this morning with a buddy for our first time chasing eyes on Quinte. We didn't seem to find any eyes but did manage one pike around 7lbs and pile of perch with about a dozen good sized keepers. We walked out and checked the ice as we went. We had a good solid ten to twelve inches where we were and were fishing in 24' of water.
Cheers
J

I have a question, is the boat ramp the only place to get on if you want to fish Sherman's? I have always fished Huffs although this is the first year in about 20 years. We used to go every weekend back then. But think I will stay clear of it after reading the posts. Really wanted to get my 90 year old father out but would have to use the bike and I am always leery of the ice. I have never gone threw and never want to. My bike has tracks so it would go down real fast! When I go by myself I fish with no shack but this year I bought a beautiful Otter XT PRO Lodge to pull behind the bike. One reason was so I could take dad out (and be comfortable myself of course). Anyways, I had always thought that Sherman's ice was not a good as Huffs but think maybe I should change my thinking after joining this forum and reading the posts. I may just keep the bike for the back lakes. PS I can remember driving my truck out at Huffs. Thanks

Hello ? I'm not sure if the boat launch is the only access onto Sherman's but I believe so. Looking at the maps of various roads I believe it is . That being said when I was there on Sunday there were a number of sleds and Atv's on the ice and coming out of the boat launch. Providing it stays realitively cold you should be okay to take your father out in the next few days but as you know alway check the ice as you go. If you stay on the main trails made by the other machines you should be good. Good luck and safe fishing .

The boat launch is the only public access to Shermans. All other is private property.

The ice at shermans stays better and longer because there is little to no current there. The only real water movement out from the boat launch is the tide in the bay. Unless you venture out towards the red bouy which is now bringing you back to the long reach.
The last report we had into the dew Drop In was that there is 8-14 inches of ice out there. Going over towards smiths point which is straight across basically is the warning area because of how the point comes out.

Sometimes you have to be a little cautious straight off the boat ramp right at the shore. So when you hit the ice most guys will take just to the left of the ramp or just to the right. The concrete slab under the ice sometimes doesn’t allow the ice to completely freeze that well.
If you are considering taking your dad out that is where I would say to take him out.

Hopefully this helps you out.

If you are walking, the ramp is the best. Really, your only option. If you have a snow machine or ATV, you can go on at Old Church or Thompson’s point ramp and get to Sherman’s Point in less than 15 minutes. BATMAN
