I only fish the bay during ice season. With walleye being closed now, I was wondering what people target there this time of the year. Seems to be a lot of excitement about putting the boats in :)

Lake trout or brown trout mostly

Drove by today, no ice in site until you hit collins bay which is still locked up but the actual ramp is open enough to back a boat in and get it ready for open water.

Just a quick update about Finkle's ramp.

After a few emails I had a nice call from the Roads Super.

They're going to access the hole and possibly come up with a plan for repair.

He warned that water work can take time as permits are required from the Conservation Authority, etc..

He'll will get back to me with a progress report so I can pass it on.

Hopefully it'll be good news.

Still sending emails about the ramp.

Got this back today

My staff have investigated it. Due to the nature of the ramp and the in water work, a repair will be very complicated.

If we get period where the water is at a lower elevation it might change our approach.

We are looking at a few options at this point

Thank You

This is the first message I've received acknowledging that a repair is in order. I take that as a sign of progress.

Hopefully the ramp will be repaired for the big fall push.

Ed Daniliunas is the Councillor for Bath. In a previous email he stated that the ramp is used enough that it should be repaired.

This is he contact info. edaniliunas@loyalist.ca

I encourage anyone who's interested to take a minute and contact these gentlemen. I think letting them know how much the facitilies are appreciated would be a positive thing to do.

Fingers crossed the ramp will be patched up for the fall.

Apparently a guy from out of area caught his axle on the jagged metal this week. Had to hire a tow truck ( so i guess this is helping the local economy ) bent an axle and shredded a tire . Seems cutting off the pieces sticking up and bolting a piece of checker plate over the hole would be an easy fix.

Hi horsehunter,

I passed your info on to the Township Roads Dept. and the Councillor.

Thanks

Has anyone been by lately and has the township done anything to address the issue?

I was there on Monday and the hole is still there and it won’t be long before it happens on the other side. It’s on it’s last legs I think.

The last reply from Loyalist Township indicated that they were waiting for low water to effect a ramp repair.

I sent them this info,

http://www.waterlevels.gc.ca/C&A/glfcst-eng.html

September 2017 the water level was 75.43m (247.47ft) above sea level.

This year the water level is currently, 74.91m (245.76ft) above sea level.

The probable water level forecast for October 2018 is 74.60m (244.75ft) above sea level.

The 10 yrs average low for October is 75.58m (247.96ft) above sea level.

That'll make this October's water level 2.72 ft lower that October last year and 3.21 ft lower that the 10 year October average.

Hopefully that's low enough.

At this point it has gone beyond repair they need to lift it out and replace with a new grate or precast concrete.

Don't hold your breath or bet anything you need.

Just received a reply from Dave MacPherson, Loyalist Towbship Public Works Manager.

He confirmed that, "there's a plan in place to repair the Hole this Fall", weather permitting (had to doll up the good news).

Fingers crossed the weather cooperates.
