Turkey with the bow

Went out to the back forty this morning for a turkey hunt and it didn't take long for a Tom to come on over to check things out. He strolled right into teh middle of my decoys and the Grim Reaper broadhead found its mark and put him down. Not sure if where I pulled my arrow out counts as two birds with one arrow though... Anyway, grabbed a handful of leeks on the way out and ready for breakfast now.

Very cool to harvest one with a bow. I had also been wondering about the wild leeks...I will have to take a look soon.

Those are leeks in the pictures, they have been out for over a week now. The leaves are already big and starting to lose their taste so you should be getting them now while they are still good.

Great bird.ive all so been been using my new bow that I bought late last year from Bronson and Bronson bowtech reign 7 awesome bow. I was out last weekend and again this weekend iam not sure what iam doing wrong. I can get the toms with in 70 to 80 yards and then they just hold up I think Iam might be calling to much how much calling should one be doing?.are you finding they are responding better with hen call or Tom call? Any advice would be great

I like two Jakes and one hen decoy in the middle. The Toms like to get between the Jake's to claim the hen. I find too much calling is worse than not enough.
Nice to hear other are using a bow too.

Thanks for reply I will try the two jakes and the hen that’s great advice also take it easy on the calling I will be back out this week I will post hopefully with a big Tom.

I would agree with Adventure that less calling is better than to much.

I was able to call at a turkey last week that was probably 140 yards away. Turkey would gobble back but wouldn't leave the hen he was with in a field. I got lucky and the hen came somewhat in my direction so I called once more at maybe 100 yards and just sat quiet after that. Eventually he got curious and started drifting from the hen (While still keeping tabs on her) towards the last spot he heard the sound.

Any tips for when the turkey no longer seem to responding to calling?

They are gobbling on the roost and just off the roost but after that are very quiet.
