How long do the lake trout stay around Amherst island/ gap area? Is it water temp related?

Took my wife out Wednesday. Fished south of the gap for 3 hours. No hits, no marks. Water temp. 46-48 F..

Moved into the reach heading west. Trolled planers for a couple of hours and bottom bounced for a couple. No marks, no hits. Water temp. 60 F..

Beautiful day. Gave up fishing and did some sightseeing. Watched them load cement on the St. Mary's barge. Stopped for lunch in a little grotto carved out of the rock shore along 33 Hwy.

Good day and didn't have to clean fish.(sucks)

Are the lakers typically in that areas this time of year? In and around the gap by amhearst island?
