Couple buddies of mine are at a trailer at the back end of hay bay for a couple days of fishing. They decided to just stay close yesterday aft and fished the 8' flats at the back end out in front of the creek. With in 3 hrs they had 15 fish and most of them were just over 3 lbs but a couple 4 's were in the mix too. bottom bouncers rigged on one rod and a cc shad on the other. I hate work

We don't see the boat traffic in the east end flats like we used to, notwithstanding that we don't see the number of boats everywhere like we used to.

Any idea as to the number of entrants in the Kiwanis Derby?

Most people don’t know the flats produce the fish it does this time of year. I grew up on that part of the bay. Always the “spot to fish” from May into maybe first couple weeks of June until the weed growth becomes too much

Dave,
Didn't make it down to the weigh in don't know how many tickets they sold. The flats have been off and on the last couple seasons. Prior to that they were as bigbassin18 said thee spot to fish for numbers of eaters. My buddies TXT to me was " best fishing I've had back here in 10 years". He was referring to the flats

I'll have to give it a go next time I'm out, I launch near pickerel park. Remember doing a tour around the flats a couple weeks before opener and not marking anything. Water is very stained as well, didn't think there was much there

It seems as if the flats are ideal for the more shallow, warmer water that the walleye were looking for in the post-spawn. We have fished the flats a few times over the past 5 years with some success, but not enough to make it our “honey hole”. Best of luck.

Ive seen on the endless videos i watch,,, alot of the american anglers swear by the mud flat areas., I was just saying to my son last night we should give flat areas a go. Just have no weeds no structure no fish stuck in the brain..

Wouldnt you know it, now the mouth of the creek is packed with boats haha. Kidding there are maybe 5 or 6 out right now. This area does seem to be holding fish!i started at the west end and have drifted to about middle. Marking stuff and have gone 3 for 6, two pike and a smalll walleye casting a thundermist stingeye spinner
Edit: large mouth are on too
