Caught a nice perch so I brought it home. Cleaning it up I notice some white bits embedded in the meat, mainly near the tail one on the back. Anyone know what they are? Tried google but turned up no sure answers. And yes they move, yuck

They're yellow grubs, common in many fresh water fish species. They are not harmful to humans once cooked. I usually just flick them out with the tip of the filet knife. If you're in an area where they are common you can often see them in the gills or the base of the tail before deciding if you want to harvest the fish.

The fish will usually have black spots as well , which is the beginning stages of those worms.

Careful, the white worms are the juvenile stage of a fish tapeworm. The blacks spots are a completely different species, a type of nematode.

I caught a couple jumbo's through the ice in Quinte that had long thin red worms in the meat, about and inch long. I didn't keep anymore.
