Anyone got a line on a super deal on worms? Good size dew worms? I picked some up at Ctire in Picton and they had 25 count containers. Same brand as you get here in Belleville but the ones they sell here only have 18. They were 7 bucks a container at Picton. Fat and juicy too.

Well, I guess this kind of deal is for those, who need that many worms. In those cases prices matter. In my case, I just go and buy 1 or 2, and that's enough.

This is a bit extreme, but years ago we used to buy a "flat" of worms. I think 1000 worms. This was in Durham Region but there must be a worm farmer somewhere around your area. Of course you would have to have somewhere to keep them.

Buying 500 worms at a time???

Sheesh, unless you're a Guide, we can't imagine the Average Line Soaker keeping that many alive and healthy over an entire Season.

Maybe they're used to create a Chum Line? Having a herd of 20 or 30 Wallies following the boat would be something!

Or maybe we're just too old to comprehend the strategy behind this.... yeah, that's it, that's the ticket!~

Cheers, Wordpecker

I run about 12-16 dozen a week when I'm fishing Nippissing daily on vacation with my family. At the top end that cost me about $50 and I can buy a flat for $80. If you are fishing Erie hard right now, which I am, 50 fish days are common and if it's a worm bite then you go through crawlers pretty quick. A flat is a no brainer at 0.16 cents per worm VS 0.25 cents a worm. They don't require a lot of maintenance and if you fish a lot it works out well.

That’s the biggest thing. We have about 10 guys buy flats a year. And they have a cold cellar or a very damp basement. And they keep for them most of the season as well as they are in good dirty moist and cool and dark they will keep for a long time

When we were buying the flats, we took an old cooler and drilled holes in the top for air. We used to buy worm bedding from Canadian Tire and some worm food. Fill the cooler up with the bedding and that's it. We only did this when we were going on long trips with 5 or 6 guys. We would fill up and freeze 2 litre pop bottles and just lay them on top of the bedding and swap them out with new ones every day. Not sure if we were actually saving any money after buying the bedding and food, but it works great for a week trip and you always have worms on hand.
