Well I finally made it down from Quebec for a chance at some Quinte Gold! We launched at the Ferry Friday mid morning and off we went to the trolling grounds. I was a guest aboard my buddy Jeff's 18ft Smokercraft, and the infamous Patio joined us on board for the trifecta. We ran 6 lines, 4 boards and 2 downriggers. We went 2 for 3 the first was a mammoth 14 lb and the second an 8lb male. Both fish on the outside board 125 out and 100ft back. A black and silver Reef Runner took the big female, and Dr. Death did his thing for the second fish. We fished 4 hours. We did not see too many fish caught, and reports at the dock supported that.

We launched again Saturday mid morning, again at the ferry, and set up the same spread. Within an hour the outside board fired and we had another large fish on the line. Another 14lber in the boat!!!! We expected more fish but the fish Gods had other ideas. We missed one other fish and it was quiet after this. The rains moved in and we pulled the boat out.

Twin 14lbers in two days was simply remarkable. I have never seen one in the boat let alone two in a weekend. The fish were gorgeous and really healthy looking, no marks, growths etc. I am happy to report that all fish swam back as healthy as they came in.

The water was 38 degrees, we marked a lot of bait balls and the walleye were definitely in those balls feeding.

Hey Dan Elliot, how the heck do I post a few pics? I am sure a few board members are going to want to see these fish!!!

Tight Lines and good luck to you all for the balance of the season.

Jimbo

Check this out. Max size for each picture is 1000x1000 pixels I think, so may require some resizing also

Great post. This is response to a thread comment on swim bladders...

Please check out the link below if you are fishing deep divers below 28 FOW. Barotrauma is not something well publicized in Quinte. Before I was made more aware of it about a year ago ago I am sure I released a few big girls that did not live to fight another day, although I thought I was doing the noble thing in releasing them.

I am not pointing any fingers at people, it is just that technology is making it easier to target and catch big fish at greater depths than ever before. Technology is also making it easier to successfully release these fish.
