Great to see CF members and Veterans will have free fishing.

I have a plastic waterproof smartphone box that I keep my documents in. I pass it over in my landing net. Now I'll put the phone in.

Lots of situations I would rather carry a laminated license than a $800 phone

kind of odd but the way I see it is if you use electronic data base then so can the MNR so let THEM use there 2400 smart phone to check and see if I in fact have a license ?? I can see it now. Humm No cell service would you mind following me 10 K up the road until we get service so I can find out if you have a license like you say you do! lol

We could all go to Service Ontario and have microchip inserted in our neck it could hold as well as your hunting and fishing license your drivers, birth certificate, health card , and your Canadian tire money. They could just sit in the truck and fly a drone over you.

For veteran status probably have to be from WW1.

Sounds like you have both options? I use my phone as a camera so it's always on me.

My licence expires 31 Dec, so I was curious about the present status of the licence change for veteran's.

Sent an email and here's the canned reply,

Hello,

Thank you for your email.

The government is beginning work to amend the Fish Licensing Regulation with the intention of enabling all veterans and active Canadian Armed Force (CAF) members, who reside in Ontario, to fish for free as a small token of recognition for their service. The target implementation date is January 1, 2019, which would allow time for the proposal to secure the necessary approvals to amend the regulation.

Once this initiative is implemented, veterans and CAF members will no longer need to obtain a fishing licence from a licence issuer. Individuals that qualify will be required to carry their identification card with them while fishing. If requested by a Conservation Officer, the individual will be required to show their identification card. Over the coming months, more details will be provided on the exact identification that would be recognized for veterans and active Canadian Armed Forces members.

As with all deemed licensing, qualifying individuals would be permitted to take a sport limit of fish. All other fishing regulations would apply.

If you require further assistance, please call 1-800-667-1940 or 1-800-387-7011 to speak to a representative.

Regards,

NRISC web reader - CG
