Went back out yesterday morning in that brain numbing cold wind. We practically had the place to ourself with only a few other vehicles in the parking lot. Made the km trudge out and it was so cold my phone froze and shut off. So much for using the navionics app to get back to the same spot we had fished the evening before. If you go off the pt Anne side a second pressure track has opened up not too far from shore but you can see (not now with the fresh snow) where folks had been crossing over it. We fished till 10;30 with each of us getting a fish late in the morning, 7.12 and 7.7.
Caught a few fairly big silver bass too and there were hardly any perch in the area. Marked about a dozen and most of them wouldn't lift off the bottom. The ones we did get came in and slammed the lure. Using a pimple type bait and really just twitching it with the odd big jig. The fish were definitely in a negative mood. Contemplating fishing this aft but with all the snow out there and the exercise I already had this weekend might just couch surfing instead. Anyone else make it out yesterday?
Good luck and be safe.

Went to Huff's yesterday morning with my son. Counted 52 huts and one hardcore dude jigging in the elements. Fished 7 till noon , 26 ft down caught 5 kept 2 eaters . My son caught 6 while I broke my pb twice a 10 and 11.5 pair of donkeys. No scale but did the length and girth calculation. One on a moonshine lure the rest on a Lindy flyer.

Lots of action for you lately Dan, nice fish!

...I hit Huffs Saturday morning before sun up. Was set up and fishing by around 6:30. Somewhere in the middle, 27ft. Has a solid 5 inches of ice...counted 40+ huts out there just after sun up. Probably more by time I left

As for the fish, the traffic was HEAVY in the morning. Never marked so many fish in such a short period. A couple big schools came through. Slowed down around 8:30 and after 9:00 basically dead....could not get anything to bite.

I have had my camera down there on a few occasions and they are not all walleye ....many schools of sheepshead going through, and very large ones but they don't bite to often in the winter ,not sure why

Out of curiosity, what were the lengths. I don’t know the calculation or use it but I do know in the fall or later 28” is usually close to or above 10lbs, 29” over 11 in some cases.

We caught a 28” flat that was 11.3lbs in December.

I find the calculations don’t apply to our fish as they are just fatter than everywhere else.

Could very well be. And we can all be grateful for that...never had to deal with one through the ice but can't see how a big one could even fit through an 8" hole

I used the formula ( girth x girth) x length ÷800. First fish was 28 long with a 17 girth. Second was 29 long with a girth close to 18. Not sure how to post pictures

I got a giant once and could barely squeeze it through a 10" hole. I yelled for a buddy to come help because I thought it was a giant eye. When he got to my hole it showed itself through the gin clear ice. It looked like the lid of a garbage can coming up. He just laughed and said "good luck with that" and walked away.
