I'm planning a Quinte fishing trip mid Feb. I'll be staying in Trenton and was hoping to fish Quinte near there. I'm from Northern Ontario and fished walleye often but Quinte is a whole new ball game.
Just looking for any advice for depth to fish, possible location and also if there is snow on top the ice. Can I walk from shore or do I need to bring a snow machine?
I will be bringing a gas auger, portable hut, heater and a pull behind sleigh. Any advice will be appreciated.
Thanks

Hi Bud:

Not trying to diss you, okay?

Read the posts over the past week. You'll have all the info you need, and then some.

Main concern at this stage is what today's incredible, near 50 F temp creates in terms of run-off in areas near Creeks. You'll want to be looking for comments on THAT in the next couple days.

No doubt other Folks will add stuff that is more detailed, but seriously - just read the posts.

Rgds, Wordpecker.

Most places aren't too bad for walking. Most access points have fishable water nearby. Personally I like to fish a bit deeper, 25-30ft. Lots of walleyes are caught much shallower but I find the perch aren't as much of a nuisance in the deeper water. I'd plan to hit up one of the local bait shops for minnows and a couple of lures. They should be able to point you in the right direction.

True about fishing a bit deeper to avoid the perch. They can be real hard on your minnow supply. As Wordpecker says, reading the form is a good source of info.

There was snow but lots has melted. It'll vary across the bay. You should bring cleats just in case.

Personally, not being familiar with the unique ice conditions of the bay, I'd leave the machine at home. You can easily walk where ever you need to go.

You should consider that some people are willing to risk skinny ice for a fish. Saying that, check your own ice.

Don't assume that because they're out there the ice is within your comfort level.

Good luck and have a good trip.

Thanks for the tips guys. I will be reading all the post I can, seems to be lots of info. Found a good contour map of the area. Will be checking the ice as I head out with a spud. Looking forward to trying "Quinte" Thanks again.

Get yourself the navionics app on your phone , they even offer a free 15 day trial . It is a very useful tool to have.
There is also a thread on here about access points that is really helpful.
