Park on the ice, don't pay them

Not sure I'd want to park on the ice. Was there on the weekend and there is 6-7" at best.

I think $5.00 is more than fair to have a spot to park.

I was talking to the owner of the field today. Real nice older guy. Super layed back, easy going.
He was telling me that years ago fishermen parked on the road blocking the snowplow and access problems for property owners, and emergency vehicles.
The Town made the entire road a no parking zone.
He was saying the he and his wife decided to move their animals around, freeing up a field for the fishermen so they'd have a place to park.
He appreciates the donations. He says that he's also towed guy's who saved $5.00 but got stuck on the ice.
I could park in the ice but always park in the field and donate $5.00. If the field wasn't available and an open pressure crack formed at the shore, fishing would be done for the winter.
I really appreciate having a place to park.

Why? Better to not have any parking options at first ice? $5 probably hardly pays for the grading and plowing the guy does. Try fishing Simcoe where all the pay lots are $25. Personally, I'm thankful for any parking options nowadays.

I agree that he is worth paying. We stayed on the ice for a couple days, put in $10 and a note that we were OK. We got a ton of snow over those two days and he had plowed out right around my vehicle and snowmobile trailer. Solid guy offering a courtesy to us. I would pay him $5 any day, but agree that at first and last ice he is a total savior in particular.

$5.00 is more than fair for a parking spot... otherwise parking on ice the only option.
For comparison, parking in Barrie waterfront is around $25.00 for non-residents.

Of all the money we spend to go ice fishing, $5 for parking is an easy decision. Consider if it wasn't there. You park on the ice or risk getting a ticket. I say we keep him in business.
