Might be an expensive year to buy U.S. made boats

Article in CBC highlighting tariffs on aluminum. The U.S. put 10% tariff on aluminum, Canada responded with a 10% tariff on finished products.

"Canada hit back with a series of countermeasures targeting a wide range of goods including quiche, ball point pens, playing cards — and boats."

Well there's two ways of looking at it - if you already own a boat the value of it should be higher - if you need to buy a new one then yes you will have to shell out more cash - then you need to ask yourself a question - do I really need a new boat

There's no way boats should be priced at 80k up to 130k for a bass boat... for any boat up here, we use them 4/5 months out of the year.
If anything, boycott the manufacturers and force them to drop down the prices to move there product, problem is too easy of financing and people willing to go into unreasonable amounts of debt.
It seems like anything recreational or sports related costs an arm and a leg!

I took my wife 2 years ago to the boat show, she had sticker shock.
If I took her this year she would have sticker stroke....

For a 120k boat we'd have to gross 160k.
Finance 100k for that boat and out the door cost of said boat after interest could be 130/140k. OUCH.... Just saying.

they're almost all US based companies, and canada is basically an afterthought, market size wise. Your boycott would be more effective than you thought...they just won't sell in Canada anymore.

It is not only things like the tariffs but the weak Canadian dollar doesn't help either. Hopefully, the US and our government will be able to work things out, in the meantime...

Your right about the exchange rate.

As of this morning $40,000.00 U.S. will cost you $53648.07 plus the 20% traiff, plus 13% HST.

I would imagine existing 2018 inventory and used boats will be in demand this year.

Buying it is the easy part, a boat is a hole in the water you pour money in. BOAT stands for break out another thousand.

I've wasted money on worse things.

Too bad it's not more attractive to build boats here, but we've bled almost all our manufacturing.

Migawd; the Prices are nuts to begin with, but switching to Our Buckaroonie virtually blows away anybody possessing the slightest shard of Common Sense.

Do we have ANY Members who come close to qualifying for that last Level? Do THAT Math!!!~

FWIW: personally we reside up in the Top Tier of Non-Possessors, suffering a Classic Brain Phart at the end of the 2017 Season. Taking our perfectly fine, totally suitable Fishing Pontoonie in for Winterizing, and coming back home the same Day with a shiny new Smokercraft 182 Pro Angler xl... much to the chagrin of Kids, Grandkids, Dawg, and unavoidably The Missus.

Brain Pharts have a tendency to be awfully painful... so can The Missus.
