Hi Fellow members,

My buddy want to try out his new kayak in Trenton area and wonder any open water for his kayak and planning to launch at the Trenton ramp.
Any inputs are much appreciated!
Thanks in advance!

Guessing there is a pretty strong current in the Trent River right now.

Trenton boat launches are terrible, drop off from cement is a hazard, shallow with uneven rock bottoms. The Belleville launches are far better, gladly pay to use them.

I was just talking with Sally Freeman council women for Quinte west she got back to me that work was being done on the launches to try and fill in the drop offs at end of the cement pads before opening week end of walleye season.

There was a similar hazard years back at the Old Cut boat launch at Long Point on Lake Erie. I witnessed a trailer undercarriage catch it coming out and the driver gunned his diesel truck, it bent the frame on his trailer. The boat launches in Trenton are a disgrace.

And... Timing could NOT be worse!

Hopefully a Fix occurs before The Opener, which is now only 10-11 days away, if we're counting right.

I’m no engineer... how can the city repair a launch in high water? Seems that needs to be addressed in a drought season where levels are super low??
Seriously I’m interested on how or what can be done?
Besides not much parking is the launch across the river at cold storage good? I can just pick my buddy up on the arena side... I’d rather waste that time than risk trailer or prop damage

also no Engineer, BUT... we're thinking it wouldn't be that tough to drop a water-proof barrier around a Launch area, then drain the trapped water out. Once dry, repairs can/could be done fairly effectively.

Do we get any marks for 'Positive Attitude'??~

The launch at cold storage is good your trailer will not be off the cement pad when unloading boat. There is a private parking lot right beside (north) of ramp but you can not park in it.

The City needs permits from the Conservation Authority to work on boat ramps. Might be an issue getting them this time of year.

Oh absolutely wordpecker sounds like you may have done this before or at least a great idea on how to complete I was thinking sort of same idea must be something weathertight but I’m sure it can be built.. unfortunately I don’t have the skills to build or design it lol maybe we can put together a crew and put the idea in a committee members inbox I would certainly volunteer some time to help improve all area ramps and I bet I’m not alone... a couple hours x 100’s of members would get a lot done fast!!
5 more sleeps til derby wooooooohooooooo

I live 5 minutes from Trenton launches, I just picked up my annual launch pass for Belleville. Gladly pay 64 dollars a year and drive there for excellent boat launches and parking. Trenton council needs to get on with constructing proper launches.
