In the local Belleville Intelligencer paper
[i][i]Anglers, start your outboard motors and wet your lines, the 39th Annual Kiwanis Walleye World Fishing Derby marks the opening of the pickerel and pike seasons in the Bay of Quinte region this weekend.

The 2019 Walleye World is shaping up to be a major event once again with some exciting new additions and a number of old and great friends coming along to join the Trenton Kiwanis Club on the waters of the Bay of Quinte.

The Kiwanis Walleye World is a massive fundraising effort by the Trenton Kiwanis Club to help raise money for the community in support of the goals of Kiwanis International. Their priority is simple: youth.

The Kiwanis support many local initiatives and activities that help to support and encourage youth through sport, sciences, academics, and much much more to make our community a great place to live and play.

Every year they gather together to raise money and to give away great prizes on the first full weekend of May. They look forward to this weekend every year and together they make it the best weekend of May for walleye fishing in the province of Ontario.

Upwards of 5,000 anglers are expected for the event, which features approximately $50,000 in prizes plus more than $200,000 in tagged fish cash prizes. New this year there will be more than 60 prizes available for fish caught every 2.5 hours starting at 12:01 a.m. Saturday until derby closing at 4 p.m. Sunday. The top four fish weighed every 2.5 hours — either walleye or pike — will qualify for prizes. The closing ceremonies and prize presentations will begin at 5 p.m. Sunday at Derby Headquarters at Trenton Community Gardens.

First prize in the walleye category is 16 ProSport SC Legend boat with 25 hp Mercury 25 ELPT four stroke outboard motor and Glide-on Trailer valued at $15,999. Top prize in the pike category is a 14 WideBody Legend with a 9.9 hp Mercury outboard motor and a Glide-on Trailer valued at $8,999.

There are five prizes for each of the senior and junior walleye and pike categories. In senior walleye, prizes include second place — Merland Park four night, five day stay valued at $2,500; third place — a walleye charter for two courtesy of Pro Tackle Fishing Specialist valued at $2,000; fourth place — Excalibur crossbow and fishing gear valued at $1,600; fifth place — Stealing Drag Sport Fishing Charter valued at $800. Junior prizes for both walleye and pike include: kayak with paddle and life jacket; Blue Rock Charters for two; LED televisions; CCM bicycle with helment; and RCA 10-inch tablets.

Online registration closes Tuesday at 5 p.m. at www.kiwaniswalleyeworld.com, there are also 42 outlets from the region and province where tickets can be purchased. A list of ticket locations is available on the website. Registration closes at 11:59 p.m. Friday.

The Ontario Provincial Police and the Ministry of Natural Resources will be present for the weekend and encourage every participant to keep safety and respect for the wildlife and waterways of the Bay of Quinte foremost in their activities during the event.

Better looking prizes for the Juniors, a Kayak would be cool.
