I've always used spinning reels https://under-the-open-sky.com/best-spinning-reel/ . I cast with my right hand, and operate the reel with my left. I've noticed all baitcasting reels are the opposite. What am I missing? I'd be completely uncomfortable casting with my left hand. And it would be a pain to cast right, then switch hands quickly to set a buzz bait on top of the water.

You can get most baitcast reels in both right and left handed.

With a good cast it's easily done during the time the bait is in the air. The low end bait caster market is still full of right hand reels, but lefts can be found, the $150 plus range has more left options..usually the combos are hard to find with a left reel. Gear ratios are usually much higher in bait casters, and they work well with heavy braid.

in general, if your right handed you reel a spinning reel with your left hand, bait caster with your right. IMO stick with spinning reels.

I am in the same boat as you Blallp. Spinning reels i cast with either hand and reel with left hand. Bait casters i cast with either hand and reel with right. I tried left handed bait caster and it just didn't feel right for some reason. You would think it would seeing that i reel a spinning with my left hand. I sent my left handed bait caster back after a few days and got a right hander. I cast and switch hands to reel with right. I don't find it an issue and have been doing it for years.

I bought a left hand retrieve bait caster because want to set hook with right hand just like a spinning rod. Plus it feels more natural. It took a bit of getting used to but I can hit most casts with my bait caster, i only get it out when casting for bass at the bow of my 17 footer.
