Quinte Fishing

Hi there everyone, A buddy and I had one of our best outings in Deseronto today.. We launched at the public ramp @ 6:30 am and headed to the river mouth to the east.. (brain fart) ???? We drifted worms on floating jigs and managed to tally 22 fish today.. Fish seemed to turn on at around 9:00 am till about 10:30 and managed a couple of double headers in this time.. We fished in front of the trailer park out that way and were drifting from the east to the west.. What a perfect day !!! Seemed like many others we saw were onto fish.. Lots of nets over the side.. Kept 4 in total for a dinner since I haven't had a walleye dinner in 3 years..

Just to add the the water depths were between 10 - 13 feet.. Drifted from Red marker near the mouth and westerly to the Old Marina (not is use witha big sign saying GAS )..

nice catch...any particular colors working good for jof heads??also is the river mouth ur talkn about past the trailer park ??

Yes the trailer park in just west of the mouth (Napanee/Napean) ??? Started drifting from the red marker just off of the point that comes out of the little bay in front of the park..

We were using white heads with pink and orange eyes.. Also used a very small treble trailer hook.. I think they come as a package from a co. called Lindy Joe..

Great info, thanks guys. My dad and I are heading down to Desronto on Wednesday after work, hopefully the fish are still biting.

I know you mentioned that the action really picked up at certain times in the morning, any word on whether there is a "sweet spot" time in the evening? I imagine it would be right before dark until just after, but any info you could add would be great.

Not sure about the evenings.. Only tried it once and had no luck..

I was in the same area all weekend in the Deseronto Yacht Club derby. My Dad and I limited every time we went out. We were trolling bottom bouncers with worm harnesses. White and pink, chartruese (spelled something like that) silver..... every colour was working.

We won the derby (walleye hidden weight) which after a fantastic weekend with my Dad was a bonus. Not sure who's fish it was. We weighed in which ever fish under our names as they came out of the basket.

We too fished from in front of the trailer park, just past the club house. We found that the bigger blades on the worm harnesses produced bigger fish.... kept the perch away a bit better.

I'm going to give it a go with bottom bouncers & worm harnesses tonight. I've never used this set-up before so I was wondering what you ahve found to be a good trolling speed.

When we troll cranks we try to stay in the 1.0 - 1.5 mph range, looking for your advice.

I'm not sure the speed....it was as slow as the boat would troll

Trolling in the area, we found that sometimes the best bites were going against the wind so it slowed down the troll even more.

Our biggest fish were caught closer to the yacht club with bigger spinners on our worm harnesses. We also caught everything else too. Gobbies, rock bass, perch and more perch and even double headers on the same harness of perch, sheep head, mud cat, and even a double header of a gobbie on one hook and a rock bass on the other. These and a hanker chief I also caught, made need for a lot of worms.

One group I talked too, had great luck casting at night off the docks at the trailer park too. They caught walleye and a pike they said was massive....around the 15lb mark.

Dave has bottom bouncers in the office at the park too if you're interested. I lost one just off the point down from the yacht club on some sort of a snag

so do you tie the bottom bouncer to your main line and then tie a lead off of it with the lure or how does that part work???thanx

yes, you tie your main line at the angle in the bottom bouncer and then tie a 5 to 6 foot lead off the end of the top arm.

You can use a 3 way swivel aswell can you not?

sure you can..but why would you want to? Point of bottom bouncer is to get the bait down to the bottom
