Out fishing yesterday and caught a walleye with an apparently unusual parasite living on it's gill plate.
Some sort of hard shelled body trailing an aquatic plant. I'm assuming that the plant was attached to the parasite. I pulled on the plant but it was firmly attached.
I was curious as to what it was and the MNR is checking into it. Doesn't appear to be common, whatever it is.
Not thinking too far down the road, I didn't keep the gill plate. Too bad, it may have been an opportunity to have a parasite named after me.
I caught it in the weeds east just east of the Adolphus Ferry. If anyone catches one Erin Brown at the MNR would be interested.
