I can only assume by the large number of views, yet no posts, that the river mouth is not yet on anyone's circuit...at least not by anyone that is willing to share. So I'll do my part: I got the answer to my question...and to echo that famous line from Poltergeist...'they're here'!
Launched behind the arena at 6:30 am this morning...since the big boat is put away for the winter, the little 12 footer got called to duty. Water was dead calm, and moving at a perfect drift speed. After breaking through some surface ice at the launch, my fishing partner had the first eater-size within 5 mins...then another...then it was my turn for a couple...then back to him...then back to me for the big one of the day (maybe 2 lbs)...and then he finished off our outing with his fourth. Off the water at 10:00 am...7 eye's landed...probably twice as many missed between the two of us. They were light-biters this morning to say the least!
Tried everything...various Gulp baits, bucktails, trolling cranks and eerie deeries...but the ONLY thing that worked was worms on jigheads with a cheater hook being dragged on the bottom with the slightest bounce every now and then.
All fish were caught in 18-20 ft of water...basically middle of the river...between the launch area and the first set of buouys.
Probably would have stayed out longer...and caught even more...had we not run out of worms!
