I know most guys target Wallys this time of year but I’m still on the hunt for the monster gator I know must lurk in the cold Lake Ontario waters, and this is the best time of year to try to catch one. Went out this afternoon with a like minded friend in hopes of catching one. Sadly 13 pounds was our biggest today , I know that’s a great fish but I really was hoping for a 20 plus. What we did get was 5 hrs of reeling thanks to the onslaught of pike that where eating today.
8 to 14 inch Muskie baits (Jakes and grandmas) and a couple of reef runners, trolled on planers where the meal of choice.
21 fish landed with the smallest being around 7 pounds. Almost all were over 10.
I know I am lucky to live so close to a fishery that is full of trophy fish of any different number of species. Don’t get locked into one kind. They all eat this time of year.
