Just had a few conversations with bass tournament anglers who asked about the imposed fee for any tournament held on the Rideau System.

I hope that this is just a nasty joke.

Yes, a $210 per day "Special Event" permit fee for any event "taking place over the bed of the Rideau Canal" as per Parks Canada.

I get it, but sucks for the small tournament groups that use several of the canal waterbodies over bass season.

There will be a lot of backlash
From the replies that I've received from Parks Canada this new fee/tax targets any group of two or more who have any event on the Rideau System. This means a kayak lesson, family picnics, fishing, water sports of all sorts.

The folks from Parks Canada made sure it was clear that they have hired a large enforcement officers and everyone will be forced to show their permits or face the consequences.

This is just the beginning.
