Hello!
Thought I would ask the experts on this site for some guidance.

I've got an Humminbird Ice 35 for ice fishing. I really like it...works just how I would want it to.
I've been thinking of getting a decent fish finder for my boat though and thought maybe there is a way that I could use the Helix 5 or 7 for both ice fishing and as a fish finder on the boat and then selling my flasher.
Sometimes I watch videos of guys using their sonars and they seem somewhat...lagging...or delayed in whats happening below the ice. That could be just the videos I watch though.
Do any of you guys use sonar units like that for ice fishing? If so...how do you like them?

Does anyone know if all the helix models have an ice mode or if it's just certain models?

Should I make the switch?
Any advice would be appreciated!
Thanks

I’ve NEVER felt undergunned with my Vexilar. It’s instant feedback.

The answer is yet, any Helix 5 or 7 can be used providing you have the latest software update.

Sorry, I can't speak for Hummingbird, but I bought the Lowrance ice fishing kit and simply unplug the sonar from the boat and plug it into the ice kit. I turn the settings to ice and the ping speed to fastest and it is all but instant. Once ice fishing is over, i plug it back into the boat. Works great for me.
Maybe someone can say if Hummingbird has the same kit.

Here's a site that tells you what you need to convert a Helix for ice fishing.

I use the Helix all season G2N (last year's model) it comes with everything you need. Comes with 2 transducers, one for the boat and one for the ice/portable unit. All you need to do is switch modes from ice to open water or vice versa. Love mine so far.

Didn't know that. Excellent. I'll check it out.
