Looking to take the little ones out on some crown land for camping/fishing this summer but the spot i was looking at is near a quinte conservation areas border. Is the green highlighted area on google maps accurate enough to go by (maps shows the northern portion of a lake as a conservation area but the bottom 2/3 as open) or should i call the ministry to be sure? Thanks in advance

I wouldn't rely on Google Maps for exact boundaries. Better check with the Conservation Authority if the boundary is close. I believe the only camping allowed on Quinte Conservation is at designated sites on the Depot Lakes. Darcy Clow works out of the office there and will answer your questions. He's there year round so keep trying.

If you want to camp on Crown Land other than a Conservation Authority, here's a site with some info.

https://www.ontario.ca/page/recreationa ... #section-0

That's not a for sure either, you need road and camping permits for Frontenac County https://www.frontenaccounty.ca/en/thing ... ping.aspx#

If I want to know if land is private or public, I go to the MPAC site https://www.aboutmyproperty.ca/

You have to create an account to log on. The site has a map that you can use to see lot lines and whether it's public or private.

I had a spot that I was interested in ice fishing and was surprised to find out that the whole lake was private property.

I agree with Roblin - I wouldn't necessarily trust google maps regarding boundaries.

I do use the following link when I want to access back-lakes, from Crown Land, up north for ice fishing.

That's a good site. Not much crown land south of 7.

There's not much crown land south of 7 at all. It exists in small pockets here and there, most of which isn't in areas you'd want to camp, let along near the areas you are looking. It's better to head into the Bancroft side of things. Far more crown land and a number of good lakes and rivers.

Now there are a lot of nature reserves and protected areas of the so-called green areas where you cannot rest and do camping. Please note such places are usually indicated on the official websites of the regions or marked on maps and navigators. By the way, it's funny how many amenities can be brought neither by the places in nature, but by camping equipment. More details at https://wildbounds.com/
