May we or may we not fish?

Have heard all sorts of roomers but have seen nothing on here. Obviously we will not be able to cross the border for our annual opening weekend trip to Green Point but are you allowed to get in your boat and fish in Canadian waters? Will the Bay be open to fishing to Ontario fisher people? Are boats allowed to launch and people fish? They have reopened our boat launches but have herd nothing from our friends on your side of the border. Can i cross to the canadian side from US waters and fish?

Fishing is still open! All city and municipal owned boat launches are closed. If you have a private launch on your property you can launch your boat. Any ministry owned launches are open. Fishing is still open and you can fish from shore. Fish on!

I think you are good to fish, so long as you follow the normal rules regarding licensing etc.

One other thing you most likely will not be allowed to do is dock your boat and step ashore. I believe this would be a violation of the Closed Borders rule.

I could be wrong on that last statement and stand to be corrected if someone knows different.

Just got a phone call (!) from the MNR - I had inquired (by email) as to getting out fishing - long story short - if you can get on the water, you can fish - Ontario parks, Federal Parks , Conservation Authorities & Municipalities have closed boat launches - but the MNR’s position, as long as you can get on the water without trespassing etc, and you follow all the fishing rules, you can go fishing!

Best answer I have read in a while, just follow the guidelines and it's safe to fish alone in a boat or with others from the same household, the key is avoiding crowds and maintaining the 6" distancing, I hear those that say they can follow the "rules" and how it's safer fishing in a boat than the supermarket however its not about the few, can you imagine the gong show at say the Deseronto ramp, 60+ boats launching next weekend, 1/2 of those trying to launch solo, with an onlooking impatient audience, with no docks in yet it's at least a 10 minute per boat, 6 boats per hour 10 hours to launch 60 boats???
If we are all patient it will open up soon enough.
IMHO it will be after the May 24 long weekend

I say don't wait for Deseronto to open. 2nd week of May the back lakes will open. Fill your tanks and go.

Thanks for posting...still a question that is unclear to me; can we fish in boats with someone that is NOT in our household?

I know and understand best practices and all that but...???

Has anyone been given a definitive answer to this? I've heard yes from shore, maintaining the safe distance but nothing about in a boat.

I highly doubt anyone is going to say anything about this. But the Plandemic calls for 6' clearance, so if you can 'smell my fart, your not far enough apart'. One in front of boat and one in back just to keep the sheep happy, then you should be good to go. As long as your boat is bigger than 6', you should be good.

Yes you can. It is recommended by the Province that you dont, and if you do, they recommend that you stay 6' apart but legally the only restriction they have put in place is no public gathering of 5 or more people.

Not sure about non-family in the boat...golf courses will only be allowed to have 1 person on a cart unless they're in the same household.

The question is, why even risk it? If we are all patient, hopefully this we will all get through it. Don't be like my stupid neighbor have people coming and going all the time, staying, leaving, going who knows where. As long as there are people that think they can do whatever they like, this self imposed quarantine will continue, or stricter regulations will be put in place.

The original question was from a US member who was wondering if he would be allowed to travel BY BOAT from the US side to fish Green Point on the opening weekend. His ramps/marina on the US side is open.

So long as he doesn't leave his boat and step on shore, I don't see why he can't.

Much being posted about C19 and no one posts much to back it up. It doesn’t matter what someone says with regard to being ticketed unless there is actual legislation to back it up.

There is a big difference between laws and recommendations.

This is the legislation with regard to boat ramp closures.
Specifically look at subsection (2).

This is the legislation for groups of 5. There is nothing about 6’ distancing or fishing with people from another address as long as there are no more than 5 of you.

These are provincial and cover the entire province.

On top of this, some municipalities have created bylaws with further restrictions for their individual areas.
