Quinte Fishing

This will be my first full year of kayak fishing. I hope to get out for some eyes this weekend, but wasn't sure how to target them... Do you guys have a tendency to troll like you would in a larger boat or do you just get to a spot and jig? I thought jigging would be easiest, but it would take up other peoples trolling lines I am sure.

Just curious as to how you guys go about sharing the water with other larger vessels. Thanks.

I’m not a kayak fisherman myself but I’ve seen lots of them while walleye fishing. I’ve seen them cast. I’ve seen them trolling. And in the deeper water jigging. Was talking to a couple of them last year I asked what way they have found to produce the most and he told me he gets the most while casting and running his baits along weed beds or on shallow flats

I'm not a kayaker (don't like swimming) but I've talked with and watched a few. They both troll or jig and do pretty well. The guy's I've seen trolling had foot peddles which are pretty impressive.
Weed lines and shoals would be good for trolling or jigging. If I was in a kayak, I'd probably drift a worm along shoals.

Be careful, the water is cold and it's really hard to see someone bobbing in rough water.

I would think a kayak would be the ultimate in a shallow water stealth presentation, not even an electric motor whining away. I would suggest trolling edges of the new weeds,mud flats, I have found them as shallow as 4ft to 8ft, most boats don't go that shallow and those that use 9.9 2 strokes seem to catch fewer fish.
To much work for this old guy, however I have spotted Kayaks on bay from spring to freeze up.

I'm not too worried about falling in, the fishing kayak I have is a "Feelfree" lure 11.5 and is so stable I can easily stand in it... not that I would this time of the year. They have come a long way and are so much fun to catch fish out of. Almost every fish feels like a lunker.
