Looks like yellow grub. It only affects a Great Blue Heron (reproduces safely in the gullet) and won’t affect anything else that consumes it. Most of the time you can pick them out but that is packed full. A lot of fish are affected by it. You’ll see them in panfish, bass, perch and minnows all the time

I think it is different than the yellow worms or grubs in other fish.

What do you think it is? Pathology has been almost twenty years ago for me so I’m just going off what I see and remember. The grub in the flesh is a metacerariae stage of the parasite. Similar to black spot you see in a lot of panfish too. Be interesting knowing what is.

Thanks guys for the info on this issue what ever they are feeding on in hay bay definitely should be looked at more to find cause of this...good thing are walleye aren’t affected by this

Walleye get them all the time. Just like perch and bass. They don’t get them nearly as often due to habitat but they do get them a lot.

Walleye frequently have tapeworms and tumours. Those mudcat are likely infested with yellow grub. ONbuckhunter, sounds like you are trying to remember parasitology class from SSFC.

Yup that’s the class. It was one of my favourites actually. Lotsa SSFC graduates are on this board actually. I did the Law course too but it’s been along time. Lol.
