As discussed many times the province didn’t closed launches municipalities did. Lots still open if you take time to research. But having the premier ask/tell municipalities to open would go a long way for sure so I was going to sign it until I actually read it. One of the worst written petitions I have ever read.

jjz, No need for you to get sarcastic just because you have a different opinion then others. Unlike you I don't have a private launch to use and wish to fish familiar waters like the St. Lawrence and BOQ, not these back lakes you repeatedly try to send us to if we take the time to research. Besides, most of them are in cabin country and it was my understanding these where the places we are told to avoid because of the impact it could have on health care units not able to handle an out break. Unless your Trudeau we where told to stay home.
You believe the province had nothing to do with the closures of launches and I believe they all follow each others lead including the Ministry of Health, municipalities are only doing what they are told playing it safe and avoiding responsibility. but then that's just my opinion.
I seen the petition and thought I would share it with this forum in hope it might help guys and gals like me, not to offend anyone. Bless you all, stay safe and try to keep your line wet. :)

Not being sarcastic at all. I am telling people there are lots of launches open so people can get out fishing and to make sure they get on their local official if they think launches should be open. I could just keep it quiet and keep them to myself but I didn’t. I don’t have access to BOQ, St Lawrence etc either that’s why I was going to sign the petition but couldn’t do it because it missed the mark. Suggesting launches be opened for fisherman only and someone could be there to checking fishing licences is silly. The argument to make is that the launches should be open for all not just fisherman. Full marks for posting it and trying to make a difference I just didn’t like the petition itself.

Yeah, I too have a problem requesting that launches be open to fisherman only. The guy with a sailboat, jet-ski, or pontoon pays taxes too, and has the same access rights to public waters.

Pitting one user group against another is the last thing we need to do.. "No Fishing" areas are becoming more common, often fueled by the "anti's" desire to ban this "barbaric practice of torturing fish for pleasure". Imagine the reverse....all users can use the launch except fisherman.

For this reason, I won't be signing the petition.

JJZ there is not Lots of boat launches open so quit saying that! You cannot get a boat in the entire South or North Shore of Lake Ontario. That’s over 200 miles of shore line through biggest populated areas in Ontario. Maybe if you travel (North) you might find one open, but you are advised against doing that. But please quit saying there is lots Open when that is not the truth.

The petition was written by a kid with one thing in mind, and that was getting access to fish. Just goes to show your own arrogance by stateing it’s not inclusive enough for you to sign, or saying it’s putting different groups against each other. Get over yourselves.

The kid who put the petition out did do some good as he is from Belle river. Chatham Kent has left boat launches open in some areas to there community. What have use done other than Criticize some kid, about the proper etiquette of a petition????????

One more time with feeling.... There are over 100 thousand lakes in Ontario, too many miles of rivers to count with 100s of thousands of boat launches. So yes a lot of the big water is shut down unfortunately but there are far more launches open than closed and I am not talking about travelling 20 hrs into the wilds of NW ON either. I am about 20 mins north of Lake O, I suspect that would be no further than many people would travel to fish BOQ or St Lawrence. Perhaps where you live might be a bit of a black hole where even the back lakes are shut down and will require hours of travel but thats not the case around most of eastern On.
As for the petition, its great that a kid is doing something rather than sitting around watching Netflix but a bad message is a bad message. If there was a petition that only pleasure boaters or property owners could use the launches and not fisherman I wouldnt sign that one either.
Anyways look like things are loosing up now more municipalities are opening ramps, marinas are getting ready to open so even if you disagree and think there are not a lot of places to launch now there will be shortly. good luck on the water!

I certainly appreciate the petition writer's efforts, and applaud his intentions. I just don't like the idea of giving "special status" to one user group over another...we all know where that slippery slope leads....

Anyway, it sounds like by Victoria Day we'll all be back on the water...

I live on the outskirts of Peterborough. The heart of the Kawartha lakes. I could go on The fish on line app and show you literally 50 boat launches within 10-15 minutes max of my house. I’ll bet there is more boat launches around my house than anywhere else in Ontario. That being said I know of one launch I have been able to sneak into for Crappy. With myself knowing 1 in 50 launches on over a dozen bodies of water I can sneak into, THAT IS NOT LOTS OF BOAT LAUNCHES open! That is 1-2%

Good on 'The Kid' for trying!

No need to dump on him - regardless of age - for that, in our opinion.

This is one of the BEST Forums on the Net, and also one of the Friendliest.

Let's keep it that way, ok?

Rgds, Wordpecker.

Kudos to Napanee Mayor, she replied right away and said they were looking into it today to see what other municipalities were doing.
