A couple of the hinges on my folding boat seats have buckled...they just don't stand up to 230 lbs of tired fisherman leaning back for a snooze.

My boat's a Lund, but they are the standard folding (no-pinch hinges) fishing seats that I see on a lot of other brands too. The hinges are fabricated from aluminum (that's the problem). A few years back, I remember seeing (somewhere on the internet) some after-market replacement hinges that were made from stainless steel...obviously I wasn't the first one with this issue. I also remember seeing after-market hinges that were ratcheting...adjustable for a number of different reclining angles (just like in a car). I now can't seem to locate anything but the standard aluminum ones. The seats themselves are in great shape, so I'm not quite ready to throw out the baby with the bathwater.

Any suggestions or solutions ?

Thanks BATMAN.

Yes, I need something stronger...the aluminum is just too soft. It's that or go on a diet...hehe

Unfortunately, Metalmoulding does not sell to the public...trying to find a distributor who can order for me..

Btw, Lund will only sell you the entire seat...they won't do the hinges on their own..

I did find some on-line from Wise at BoatSeats.com. Not SS but "XTR" aluminum, made for their "heavy duty" seats. Unfortunately, they don't ship to Canada, so I had them delivered to a buddy in PA, and he will mail to me. I'll let you know how they work out.

Have you ever contacted a marine canvas repair center? I would imagine that they repair the odd seat.
