The federal government is supporting an upgrade to a popular boat launch in Quinte West.
Bay of Quinte MP Neil Ellis announced on Wednesday afternoon at City Hall, the municipality is the recipient of $200,000 in federal funding.
The city will receive the funds through FedDev Ontario (Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario) to reconstruct the Ontario Street boat launch, including removing existing infrastructure and the creation of four new launch lanes with improved drainage, traction and elevation and parking lot improvements for trailer storage.
Ellis said this funding will help bring more tourism dollars to the region because the Bay of Quinte is a well known world-class boating and fishing destination.
He said this will help contribute to the local economy because it will bring more people to the area to boat and fish.
Mayor Jim Harrison told Quinte News this is a great announcement because it not only benefits the city but the entire Bay of Quinte region.
“We are stronger together,” he said. “You know when we have a fishing derby they are from the south, east and west, all over and we’re thankful. And we need it.”
Harrison said the better the facilities, the more people will come, because they are accessible and safe.
Bay of Quinte Regional Marketing Board Executive Director Dug Stephenson was there for the announcement and says this will help people experience our region from the waterways.
