Headed to the 1000 islands on saturday for some smallie action. The water clarity is improving and the weather was cool but
a beauty day to be on the water. The smallies were biting when you found them. Not so much on the size with only one over 5 lbs. Lots of the 2-3lbers. Yesterday was a home day but one eye was looking at the weather and low winds wishing I was out on the big lake playing bumper boats with the others chasin eyes. Anyone make it out there sunday?

I was having some success out of Kingston for a couple of weeks (lots of 3-4 pounders, some 7-8s and a two 10+s) but they seemed to have moved on over last few trips, then my motor blew up last Monday around midnight - not a fun night with N/E wind pushing us out. Still waiting to hear back on the repair, hope to get out to the mouth area of the Bay this coming weekend. Only 75 hours on the motor, but it's a 2006 so no warranty. No wonder Evinrude isn't making ETECs anymore!

Dam if it wasnt for bad luck you wouldnt have any luck at all! Feel for you and hope the mechanic doesnt tell you to sit down 1st before he gives you the repair estimate. Iwas getting them out by the islands but since I wasnt out there this weekend dont know if they have shifted locations.

Oh man that sucks. Guys any Evinrude work should go to Smarts Marina in Cloyne. Unbelievable service and turnaround time. I’m sure it’s not always possible but they looked at my motor within hours of bringing it up, ordered parts the next day and fixed it as soon as parts showed up from the states. Had it back in perfect working order within 7 days.

Well worth the trip.

Also mercs blowup too, as do Yamaha and everything else.

I had the computer on my 2008 Evinrude ETEC150 go last year without any kind of warning. An expensive fix, but what are your options short of buying another motor? An unnerving experience being powerless miles from your dock, really motivates you to install a kicker.

Wouldn’t fish the big water without a kicker. 4 times in 3 years have I used it to get back. Last time was main duck island (only took 5 hrs). I agree with bigMac they all break best to have Ctow or a kicker.

I would go get it and take it to Cloyne, you really were not expecting warranty were you? I have over 2000 hours on my Kicker and 825 on the 250. They all break

No wasn't expecting warranty coverage, it's a 2006, just frustrating as it only has 75 hours on it. had 25.7 when I bought it last fall. Agreed, maybe a small 4 hp kicker is in the future. Still waiting to hear back from LD ... if I don't hear back by Fri, Cloyne sounds good as I have to head up that way anyway. Tks for the advice!

Good luck with LD! Probably the worst place in Kingston area for service! I and many friends can vouch for that! Wish you the best as I no the feeling. I have a new boat that was delayed and now after two days after arrival several problems! This has been my worst year ever for getting on the water especially since COVID has limited opportunities for your buddies to get you out!

got my boat back from LD Powersports. They couldn't find anything wrong with it. Started right up, no bad codes, water tested. Crazy. Makes me pretty aprehensive about going out too far. will have to stay within trolling motor distance of shore for a while. If it acts up again I'll take the advice and try Cloyne.

Probably pretty wise to stay close until you can figure out what caused the motor failure

Well, 'blew up' was prob not the best description. It made a sound and just sputtered out while doing 25 mph. Was able to get it started twice in neutral high rpms but died again when put in gear. Had it out Fri for 2 hrs and it was ok. Changed the plugs.
