Was surprised to see the forecast when I checked this morn, as it was not looking good. Now I see a nice cold dip starting Monday, ending Sat. Thoughts on how much ice we could have by Sat, best case scenario? Would be great to get out on 3 inches!

Jamie,

How do you check the ice thickness when you go out with your buddies?

Roll a can of beer as far as you can, out onto the new ice.

lol, good replies. At 230 pounds I def want 3 inches so not sure a case of beer thrown on the ice would cut it, but yes, might get my buddies out there ahead of me. Cold and no snow this week, sounds perfect to me, gotta have hope! Was also thinking Potters with some luck, but if not, might be a few back bays north of Kingston frozen up where the Crappie are waiting for me. The spud is shined up and ready to go!

....Saw a youtube, guy had his gear and 24 cans..... threw the case of beer up and made his decision based on the landing.

Penguins will converge on the edge of the ice and eventually shove one of their buddies into the water to see if there are any sharks around, it works something like that. We wait on shore to see who falls through.

Well I’m sitting here looking at Rice Lake and there’s not a bit of ice. I know I can usually fish on rice before I can fish on the bay

Today, after a nice cold snap, we have solid Ice across The n/w corner of The Bay, East of The Base.

However, there's no way we're going out to check thickness, thank you. Haven't seen a single Soul do it.

Might be okay. Be nice if things cooled off over the Holidays, but, You go first.
