Quinte Fishing

Headed to Potter's for the first fish of the year. Pulled in and saw a couple of guys out 200 to 300 feet. Great, got my gear and started out. About 50 feet from shore something didn't seem right. Gave a wack with the spud bar and straight through. Poked around trying to find some better ice and a way out. Spud went through fist wack everytime. There wasn't any black ice at all, just 3 inches of soft white. After a couple of minutes looking back and forth from shore to the guys fishing I decided to head back and load up.
Went for a drive and 25 minutes later I was on 4 inches of solid black ice. Set up and first drop fish on. Big Pike that broke off at the hole. 2nd drop fish on and iced a minute later. 3rd drop and his twin is on the ice.
Couple of small perch and that was it for the day.

Been there done that, not catch the fish part. the part about seen them and left. Thanks for the update......
