Hi Ron!
You're more than welcome to ask for help!! I live in Brighton/Presqu'Île and although that place is closer to Ottawa than Cobourg & Port Hope, I won't recommend it for you since you have to cross all the bay to reach the big lake and then you have to travel 30 minutes to reach the Scotch Bonnet Island, which is the place here to fish for salmon. In Presqu'Île Bay, the fishing is not good at all anymore anyway and the salmon is not there either. You have to go in the big Lake O. So, it will be a lot better for you to travel a little bit more on the 401 highway and launch your boat from either Port Hope or Port Darlington (which is 100 km after Trenton). I don't recommend Cobourg simply because they don't have an operationnal fish cleaning station. Both Port Hope & Port Darlington have cleaning stations and they are more fishermen dedicated marinas than Cobourg (which is more a sailboat marina). At those places also the fishing is done just outside the harbour in august so having a 14' boat is not a problem most of the time.
If you come to Port Darlington give me a call and I'll be more than happy to help you if you want. I run my charter boat from there. Everybody over there is very friendly. Lot of francophones too from Montreal and Quebec. And some local people too.
